Douglas Aster Seed Bombs — Coastal BC Native Wildflower
Douglas aster (Symphyotrichum subspicatum) is a native perennial for suitable coastal British Columbia garden and meadow habitats. Lilac-purple flowers with yellow centres provide late-season colour. It grows from creeping rhizomes, so allow space for a spreading clump.
When to plant: fall or spring while the soil is workable. Ravensong’s proposed seed is suitable for direct fall or spring sowing without a stated mandatory chilling period. Confirm the final lot; do not assume all sources behave identically.
Leave the seed bombs outdoors after planting. Do not soak them in a container or refrigerate damp bombs or the carton. Emergence can be uneven, and perennial plants may need more than one growing season to flower.
Choose a sunny to partly shaded site with moist to medium-moisture soil. Prepare exposed soil, manage competing vegetation and keep seedlings moist during establishment. This species occurs in moist to mesic meadows, streambanks and open woodland; the coastal label is intentionally more specific than all of BC. Match the actual seed source and planting site.
100% regionally native seed species, with no nonnative filler seed. Seed provenance and species native range are separate; confirm the actual source population before making local-ecotype claims.
