New England Aster Seed Bombs — Nova Scotia & New Brunswick

$10.50

Single-species seed bombs featuring New England aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae), a native perennial for suitable Nova Scotia and New Brunswick garden and meadow-edge habitats.

Purple flowers with yellow centres bring late-season colour. This is a tall perennial rather than a compact bedding annual; allow room for mature growth. Select a sunny site with medium to moist, well-drained soil. Prepare exposed soil and control competing vegetation; do not scatter into an established lawn. Native perennials may take more than one growing season to flower fully. Follow the final lot-specific cold-moist stratification instructions.

When to plant: fall is preferred for these seed bombs. Calls for about 60 days of cold-moist stratification. Outdoor winter moisture and chilling can provide this treatment after placement, but timing and germination depend on local conditions. The coating does not remove seed dormancy, and dry carton storage does not count. Spring-planted bombs may not emerge until after the following winter.

Leave the seed bombs outdoors after planting. Do not soak them in a container or refrigerate damp bombs or the carton. Emergence can be uneven, and perennial plants may need more than one growing season to flower.

Regional fit: suitable NS and NB habitats within the species’ natural range. Not intended for salt marshes, dunes, deep water or every coastal location. Species native range and seed provenance are separate: a Quebec or Ontario supplier can sell a species native to the Maritimes, but that does not make its seed Maritime-grown.
